Meridian meets the stars
Having successfully published her biography of her father Matt Monro in 2010 Michele Monro has recently launched the paperback edition. Michele invited Meridian radio presenters Alan King & Derek Scott to the launch at EMI’s offices in Kensington & a very star-studded event it turned out to be.
We may have missed some but those we did note were Sir George Martin (who as well as producing the Beatles was also in charge of many Matt Monro sessions), Kenny Lynch, Buddy Greco, Dave Cash, Denis Lotus, Lyndsey De Paul, Mike Winters, Shane Rimmer, Colin Keyes, Esther Rantzen and the incredibly beautiful and equally charming Anita Harris.
After a short speech Michele handed over to her brother Matt Monro Jr who sang a short set before handing over to Gerrard Kenny. Expect to hear a programme of contributions from those present on Meridian Radio. In the meanwhile, here are a few photos.

The Winners of the Meridian Radio Creative Writing Competition!

Meridian Radio presenter Phoebe Kibbey started a competition for local school kids to write a piece for radio about their local community.  The aim was to give kids a new opportunity and to build their confidence.  She had lots of entries and it was very hard to choose just one winner, so from St Paul’s Academy she chose two – Tyrone Umah and Britney Reginand.
On Sunday 6th April 2014 they both came into the studio to experience what a hospital/community radio station is like and then they read their stories live on air.
Britney wrote about the local magician Troy and Tyrone wrote about the issues with local gang culture and his suggestions to tackle them.  They were both great stories and they read them beautifully. A special thanks goes to Emily Tudor, teacher at St Paul’s Academy for supporting the Meridian Radio charity and also to Rose Hawney who is a student photographer and who kindly gave her services to take great pictures of the presentations and the winners.
