Meridian Radio – About

Meridian Prime Radio is the working name of the Woolwich Hospitals Broadcasting Service.  Meridian Radio is a Hospital based Community Radio Station as well as providing entertainment and information to the patients and staff of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich & Greenwich, it also serves the local community and links anywhere in the world with a web connection. In other words offering the chance of a link between friends and families in and out of hospital, any time or place.

Established from the merger of two radio stations in 1972, it became the Woolwich Hospitals Broadcasting Service. Known now as Meridian Radio following the station moving to its new studios in 2001.

Meridian Radio broadcasts from studios at the centre of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, broadcasting 24 hours a day, with live programmes daily.  Available online at and on the Tune in App listeners may listen in various ways.

Meridian Radio launched a new logo in June 2010 and in September 2010 launched a brand new on air identity, produced by Bespoke Music. The new identity launched at 10am on Sunday 26 September.

A New website was launched on 2 October 2011, with added features including an extensive what’s on guide for the local area and a shop, where all purchases contribute to Meridian Radio’s charity fundraising.

At 6am on Saturday 21 July Meridian Radio launched its online webcast to coincide with the arrival of the Olympic Flame in Greenwich. As at that time Meridian Radio tries to maintain a link with its adoptive community of Greenwich where it shares the famous Prime Meridian Time Line, “It’s where time begins”; a catchphrase used by Meridian Radio and its predecessors for 50 years or more.

Meridian Radio is a registered charity (269666) and member of the Hospital Broadcasting Association, HBA.

Good time radio – 24/7. Outside of our live programmes you’ll hear the best music spanning the last 50 years.

We are a voluntary organisation, and sometimes our presenters might be unavailable at short notice. Rest assured that when this is the case, the programmes continue, thanks to the Meridian Jukebox.
